Registering your WebSite

After building a website the big challenges is letting the search engines know that your site exists. To increase the chances of a site being found, design every page to be indexed by search engines. This means giving each page a unique title, META tags and content.

Search engines like Google or Yahoo! Which send out spider to index each page, the content will influence where the page will appear in the search results. Submit your website name to various search engines.

The process can take several weeks for the search engines to update their records. You need to have a good ranking in one of the main search engines like Google.

Reach a highly targeted audience by listing your site in regional business directories, vertical market directories, trade association sites, online Yellow pages sites, and other smaller directories.

These may not generate the high volumes of traffic that large engines do, but they can be a cost-effective way to hit your target audience.

There are around ten search engines that matter. Their names are household names like Google, MSN, Yahoo, etc. You want to be listed with them, because they take 98.5% of the web searches.

Before You Submit

It's hard to know if your underlying HTML code is optimized for search engine robots. At a minimum, each page in your site should include the following:

  • TITLE tag: Include a descriptive title for each page in your website.

  • META tags: Include your keywords and page descriptions inside the META tags.

  • ALT tags on images: An informative description of each image can help you with Search engines and makes it much easier for visitors with text-based browsers to use your site.

  • Keywords: Include the ones listed in your META tag throughout your page content to increase their relevance to search engines.

Submit your website every month; you want to keep your website registration current. Search engines have a tendency to drop or lose sites from time to time. Resubmitting monthly ensures your site won't get lost.

Don't submit your sites too frequently. Most search engines will consider this as spam and will exclude your site from their indexes.
